Canada trip - Day six

Today we woke up feeling horrible. Daddy woke everyone up by coughing, Arwen couldn't stop blowing her nose, and Lorien lay moaning on the bed, trying to tell everyone her dying wishes. Lorien was taken out from under her blankets long enough to go to the doctor's office, where the doctor told her she had strep throat. Needless to say, she stayed in bed all day.

However, Mama dropped Daddy off to hike, and then came back to the hotel and picked up Arwen and Morgen. They drove to Lake Louise and walked around the lake trail to the small beach on the far side. Mama captivated Morgen with a story of the last time they had been to Lake Louise, 16 years ago, when baby Arwen and a chipmunk met nose to nose. It was love at first sight. Mama and Daddy claim that ever since that day, Arwen has been part chipmunk.

Mama and Arwen sat down on a rock in the shade to wait for Daddy, while Morgen waded in the ice cold water of the lake. While Mama and Arwen enjoyed the scenery, two chipmunks appeared. The first (later named Cheeky) watched Mama and Arwen cautiously from the rocks. Suddenly, the second chipmunk (named Chipper) ran across Arwen's lap! He did the same thing three more times, and then Arwen pulled out a cracker and fed it to him. Chipper was instantly best friends with Arwen. However, Arwen wanted crackers too and popped one in her mouth before he could grab it. He screamed in rage and turned his back on her. Then Arwen showed him another cracker and he was back, scampering up onto her shoulder to eat it.  For the next hour, Arwen and Morgen enjoyed the company of the chipmunks, who chirruped their thanks for all the snacks and attention.

Daddy returned from his hike up into Six Glacier Plain and we had to leave. Morgen fell asleep on the way back to the hotel. Lorien was picked up, and we drove into the small town of Banff to eat dinner.

We enjoyed a lovely sunset over the Rockies on our trip back to Lake Louise.  Mama made the comment, "I just know there must be a bear along here who would love for us to see him."  Well, not five minutes later, there was Mama's bear by the side of the road!  Fortunately, the Icefields Parkway is lined with fencing to keep the wildlife from wondering onto the road and getting hit.  Daddy and several others jumped from their vehicles and followed the bear along the fence, snapping pictures!  We figured the bear likes to watch the tourists get excited. :)

I'm so sorry y'all are sick! I'm sure that's not what you were looking forward to! I know that when something like that happens it can be hard to remember that all things work together for good, for those who love God and are called according to his purposes, as y'all are--but its true!

What a beautiful place! I've never seen anything like it. When we were in the Tetons we saw mountains like those, and when we were on the California coast we saw water like that (except it was wild, not calm), but together! Its absolutely gorgeous!

I'm sure it was wonderful for Arwen to be back with her own kind among the chipmunks! Just kidding, but it looks like fun! I can imagine Morgan being delighted!

I'm glad Lorien was well enough to go to dinner with the others. I hope you all get well soon and enjoy the rest of your trip!

It is funny that Mrs. Cockman predicted your meeting with the bear! I think getting so close to a bear would be really neat! I'd probably be out there with Dr. Cockman!

Two things for sore throat: Clarke (who is now MARRIED! YAY!) says that warm orange juice makes a sore throat feel better. Also, if you have any Thieves essential oil, rub a few drops on your throat twice a day. Also, lavender is soothing.

Love,
Grace

Wow, Cockmans!! This is amazing contact with God's creatures!! Chipmunks! There is a spiritual connection between Arwen and chipmunks. Another landmark layer has been added to the annals of Arwen and the chipmunks.
The animals are amazing. The Lake and mountains breathtakingly beautiful. The people are precious. We are praying for health for Lorien and everybody and energy for the week ahead and a safe return. We miss you!

The Whites were over for Fiddlers Grove practice tonight. The two bands are really doing well! The newly-weds arrived in time for dinner and we had a fun time visiting. Missing you all!! Love y'all! -Hannah/Mrs.K

Stunning pictures! I love the scenery but my heart was happy when I saw that Lorien was back and hopefully on the mend. The picture of all the girls looking at the water is frame worthy! Miss you guys!

I hope you're feeling better now, Lorien!
The chipmunks are soo adorable! We always thought that Arwen was probably part chipmunk.... Haha!
We have friends that live in Calgary. Sarah went and visited them for a couple of weeks, and they went to Banff as well!
I hope you've had tons of fun!!!
We miss y'all!!

Hi everyone and thanks for the wonderful comments! Grace, we are so happy to hear that Clarke is married. Congratulations to him and Marcia! Please tell him "thank you" for the advice, and thanks to you as well. I wish we had some thieves' oil here! The time with the chipmunks was very healing, though. They recommended a belly full of acorns and a long, long sleep in a cozy hollow tree!

We are excited to hear the bands! Please give our love to each one.

Jessie, we miss you too! We really hated not being at MB with the cousins but this has been a wonderful trip. If you remember, Lorien had strep at the exact same time last year. Why does it always have to be right when she goes on holiday?

Emma, tell your friends to come to our fiddle camp tonight or this weekend!
