Canada trip - Day four

Today we had a full day of Fiddle Camp. Children started arriving around 12:00 (which was right after we woke up), and stayed until around 6:00. It was exhausting, but a lot of fun. The children up here are really eager to perfect their music, and once they learn a song, they will sit outside and practice it for hours.

One knew class that daddy taught was band class. The only people who participated were the homeschool family and another woman, but that was enough. They all sounded really good. One of Lorien’s piano students, a girl named Phoebe, didn’t want to leave the piano. She had an incredible ear and could learn songs very quickly, and every time she finished learning one song she would ask, “Can I learn another one?” In the space of about an hour, Phoebe learned three songs, top and bottom hand.

While classes were going on, all of the other children swung on the rope swing or painted in the church. We made the mistake of telling them about the Cherokee Cove buddy swing, and they tried to make one. It didn’t turn out so well, though they didn’t give up until we told them that, yes, it did look somewhat like the swing back in North Carolina.

After everyone left, we walked down to the creek to see some beaver dams. The water was still and clear and surrounded by beautiful meadows. We didn’t see any beavers, but the walk provided some much needed peace after the day’s activities.
