Switzerland trip - Day 1

We arrived at the airport 3 hours early and went through bag checks and security in 15 minutes! Then our flight was delayed. So, we had plenty of time to take photos of the critters Arwen stowed away in our bags.  We flew to Newark, NJ and then another delay as they catered our plane.  The food on the flight to Italy was really good - they actually served grits and we wondered if anyone else knew they were eating a southern delicacy.

The plane to Italy was enormous - definitely the largest plane we have ever been on. We probably slept 3 or 4 hours of the 8 hour plane ride. We rented a Fiat in Milan - a straight drive, so John is getting some practice in with the clutch.  We had printed off detailed road directions but we were not prepared for the road signs here. The Italians do not use north, south, etc. They just direct you to the next town.  So we went back and forth past the airport 3 times before finally figuring out where we were.  And the Italians drive as though they are playing bumper cars.  Needless to stay, we were glad to get out of the city!
