California Vacation 2013 - Day 9

Happy Mother's Day Mama!

By the way, we would like to thank all our friends from home who are keeping up
with us on our journey. We love reading your comments!

Today we left Sequoia National Park and we to adjacent Kings Canyon. Kings Canyon cuts through the middle of the rugged Sierra Nevada Mountains that form these two two parks. It was one of the most beautiful canyons we have ever seen! After visiting Kings Canyon, we went to the Sierra Sky Ranch near the Yosemite entrance to spend the night. It was a the biggest ranch in California in 1875, but now it is a wonderful bed and breakfast.

We climbed up Wolverton Mountain, but we didn't see Clifton Clowers or his pretty young daughter.

Lorien at Hume Lake

King's Canyon

The canyon road

The road was really curvy - but beautiful.

King of the mountain!

The King River runs all the way through the canyon.

This was a really pretty trail up to a place called Boydon Cavern. The only problem was that it was closed for the season. Yes -- we climbed under the rope.

Kings Canyon Gasoline, a gravity-fed gas pump. $1.87 per liter doesn't sound bad, but Daddy knew that was actually $7.08 per gallon.

You have to look at the markers to know when five gallons have come out.

A tunnel where the trail passed inside of a tree! You can walk all the way through!

Arwen holding the biggest pine cone We've ever seen.

Chippy's cousin, Chester, posed for the camera.

Smile Mama!

The hills are alive with the sound of music,

The songs they have sung for a thousand years...

Lorien settles down to read at the Sierra Sky Ranch.

This crochet pattern is so confusing!

Lorien practices her piano.

Daddy has started imitating the wildlife.

The piano had a beautiful sound.

Happy mother's day!
That is a huge pine cone! Arwen did Chester give that pine cone to you for a present to your mother?

King of the canyon! I think I've seen him before, he was playing the fiddle or something like that, and had little antlers on his head just starting to grow.

Glory to God! He is the one who made those views for us to look at, because he loves us, SO much we can not imagine how much he loves us.

With love.

Y'all are seeing so many interesting things! What are you reading, Lorien? Something interesting, I would guess! That really looks like "The Sound of Music" scenery! Have a great time!

Love,
Lizzie

P.S. Naughty y'all for climbing under the rope! (just joking) :)
