California Vacation 2013 - Day 8

Today we saw big trees! We said goodbye to Chris, Jenny, and Boone, then traveled to Sequoia National Park. It was so beautiful that we decided to wait until tomorrow to see Kings Canyon! We couldn't believe how big and beautiful these trees were. Their trunks seemed to glow! We also couldn't believe that loggers wanted to harvest them. It would take thousands of years to regrow them, and this is the only place in the world that they grow! We were pretty much in awe of creation all day today.

A small produce stand in the central valley.

The road into the redwood forest.

Our stone giant.

Moro rock - another stone giant!

Daddy's first sequoia tree.

This is our first view of the General Sherman tree -- the largest tree in the world! See the people below it?

Below is a video of Daddy walking part of the way around General Sherman

General Sherman, The biggest tree in the world! Below we are standing around a replica of General Sherman's footprint tiled into the asphalt.

Two really big trees.

Dalen and Chico immediately found something to climb on! Chippy left his sign... Fast Little Vermin

Arwen enjoyed messing around with the camera settings. Daddy enjoyed going off the trail for good photos. Very naughty.

There are some really big trees here!

Arwen and Lorien at the base of the McKinley Tree

A group of trees called the House of Representatives.

Arwen set up this group shot of us beneath "The President"

This place has a lot of bears! Can you find this one?

This tree was called The President.

We walked very quietly through this intimidating grove

When a tree falls on a trail here, it becomes a tunnel. No stepping over these!

Lorien by a pretty bridge

Lodgepole Campground was very beautiful!

That's amazing, that you all got to the largest tree on earth! I have always wondered How big the largest tree is, and wanted to see it. God is so good!

Amazing! It is difficult to appreciate the size of those trees until seeing people standing next to them!

Those trees are *huge*! Maybe Chippy has made a summer house in the top of one, and he came down to make his sign the night before you came!
